Call for PhD Forum Contributions

PhD Forum Contributions at IEEE MetaCom 2023

The PhD forum on Metaverse Computing, Networking and Applications (MetaCom) will be hosted by the main conference of IEEE MetaCom 2023. The PhD forum aims to provide an opportunity for PhD students to showcase their research. The PhD forum will include work in progress, and short innovative papers to the broader academic researchers to present research progresses, exchange new ideas, and identify future directions in computing, networking, and applications for Metaverse. Current PhD students and fresh PhDs who finished their PhD dissertations within the last year will be eligible to participate. This will also lead to an excellent networking opportunity to share experiences and ideas with other PhD students and researchers in this area. PhD forum programme committee members will review the papers to ensure quality and relevance. The accepted papers will be published in the main conference proceedings on IEEE Xplore. The PhD forum attendance will be determined according to the conference format.

PhD Forum Format

The PhD forum will be based on a short oral presentation (10 mins each). During a dedicated PhD forum poster session, the participants also need to showcase their research paper as a poster (A1 size). The PhD forum will accept two types of submissions in English that describe recent research and novel contributions:

  • Regular papers will include research with initial results and lessons learnt, etc., to the field (a maximum of 4 pages including references).
  • Extended abstracts will include ongoing research and further future advances in the field (a maximum of 2 pages including references).

The PhD forum papers must include the full author’s name, affiliation, institutional address, and email. Papers must be in pdf format following the IEEE two-column conference format (same as IEEE MetaCom 2023). All submissions must be registered and submitted through the Easychair submission website. The paper format and submission details can be found on the main conference website.

PhD Forum Award

The best PhD forum paper will be awarded an award certificate by the organizers.

Topics of Interest

Topics of interest are covered by the dedicated tracks of IEEE MetaCom 2023. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Metaverse Architectures and Applications
  • Metaverse Networking and Communications
  • Metaverse Computing
  • Metaverse, Blockchain and Web 3.0
  • Metaverse Security, Privacy, and Trust
  • Metaverse Theories, Experiments and Evaluations

Participation and Registration

Each accepted paper must be registered in full with the relevant registration fees (see MetaCom 2023 registration details). Each registration fee will cover only one paper. For an accepted paper to be included in the conference proceedings, at least one of the authors must register for the PhD forum rates and participate in oral presentation and PhD forum poster session.
